All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Beverly Watson http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00029.html#0007196 September 16, 2012, 11:36 am Written: February 24, 1794 Recorded: February 25, 1795 Patrick County, Virginia Deed Book 1, p. 244 THIS INDENTURE made this 24th day of February in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred Ninety four BETWEEN Henry Sumpter of Henry County of the one part and George Reeves of Patrick County of the other part WITNESSETH that the said Henry Sumpter for and in Consideration of the sum of One Hundred and fifty Pounds Current Money to him in hand paid by the sd George Reeves before the Ensealing & delivery of these presents Receipt whereof he do (sic) hereby Acknowledge & himself therewith fully Satisfied Contented and paid & thereof & every Part and Parcel thereof doth hereby Acquit and discharge the said George Reeves & his Heirs forever hath Granted Sold aliened Enfeofd (sic) & Confirmed and by these presents doth Grant Sell Enfeoff & confirm unto the said George Reeves his Heirs and assigns forever one Certain track Piece or Parcel of Land Containing five hundred and Seven acres lying and being in the County of Patrick fifty acres part thereof formerly granted to Mark (?) Foster and by him Conveyed to E. Sumpter the residue by part of Land ? in Treasury Warrant Number Twelve Thousand Six Hundred and thirty Six lyin being in the County of Patrick on both sides of Smith’s River and bounded as followeth to witt Beginning at a Spanish Oak on South side of Smith’s River at the mouth of a Branch thence new line North 48 East 88 Poles to a Ref Oak, North 86 East 162 Poles Crossing two Branches to Point on South 44 East 50 Poles to a Spanish Oak South 6 West 28 Poles to a Pine South 96 West 36 Poles to an ash on a branch thence down the same as it Meanders to pointers in the Old line thence with it South 13? East 70 Poles to Elm? on the bank of the River thence up the same as it Meanders & across to a Mulberry thence new line North 80 West 164 Poles to a Red Oak North 60 West 140 Poles Crossing Two Branches to a White Oak South 85 West 142 Poles to James Ingrams corner Post Oak thence with that line North 17 West 28 poles to a White Oak thence new line North 26 West 133 Poles Crossing a Branch to a White Oak North 84 East 72 Poles to a Locust tree South 55 East 69 Poles to a Red Oak thence East 24 Poles to a Beech on the South side of the aforesaid river thence South the same as it Mean ders and cross to the beginning to have & to hold Peaceable enjoy the aforesaid Five hundred and Seven acres of Land above Mentioned with all Houses orchard woods & Medow (sic) ground with all other and Singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining from the Claim right an Title of him the said Henry Sumpter his heirs & or any other Person or Persons whatsoever to the only proper use and behoof of him the sd. George Reeves his Heirs Executors Administrators or assigns forever & the sd. Henry Sumpter for himself his Heirs Executors &c, doth Covenant, Promise and agree that they will from time to time & at all times hereafter against all Persons whatsoever the right of the above sd. Land & Premises Warrant & forever defend unto the sd George Reeves & the sd Henry Sumpter doth for himself his Heirs & further Promise that he shall & will be hereby at all times forever hereafter to make any further Conveyance right or title that he the sd George Reeves his Heirs & assigns or his in there (?) Counsel Learned in Law shall Lawfully require at the proper Cost and Charge of him the sd George Reeves IN WITNESS whereof the sd Henry Sumpter hath hereunto set his hand and fixed his Seal the day & Year first above written ~ Signed Sealed & Delivered in the Presents of us } Henry Sumpter L S Geo Penn, Henry Sym, John Cox, Saml W Jennings } At a Court of Quarterly Sessions held for Patrick County on the 25th day of February 1795 The within written Indenture was Acknowledged by the within named Henry Sumpter to be his Act & Deed & the same was ordered to be recorded by the Court.
