Harrold (gggg-grandson of Lydia [Owen] Ayers) On June 17, 1844 LYDIA [OWEN] AYERS appeared at the Patrick County, Virginia, Court to apply for a Pension Application. She states that she is LYDIA AYERS, widow of ELIHU AYERS, and that they were married in the Spring of 1786 in Halifax County, Virginia, and that her husband died on March 19, 1844. Further, on March 19, 1845 Lydia Ayers made a declaration in Patrick Conty Court in which she stated that she was 81 years old, the widow of Elihu Ayers, a Soldier in The Revolutionary War. Elihu was inscribed on the Pension Rolls to commence his pension in March 1831, and was paid $312.60 back pay. April 2, 1846, in a letter from George W. Hopkins, Washington, D. C., written from Halifax County, Virginia, states that Lydia Ayers had died. July 7, 1846 a Carroll County Virginia paper lists all the heirs of Lydia Ayers, who died August 13, 1845 in Patrick County,Virginia. Lydia Ayers was the daughter of John Owen and Eliabeth Nichols, and the granddaughter of RIchard Owen, of Halifax County, Virginia. Her sister Leannah Owen married Elihu Ayer's brother Joseph Murphy Ayers. Elihu's parents were Thomas Ayers, Sr. and Barbara [Murphy?], and his grandparents were Nathaniel Ayers and Rhoda [Baker?], of Pittsylvania County, Virginia. His siblngs were Joseph Murphy Ayers, who married Leannah Owen,sister of Lydia Owen Ayers, Thomas Ayer,.Jr., Jane Ayers, Elizabeth Ayers, and Phebe Ayers. The children of Lydia [Owen] Ayers and Elihu Ayers are: 1. Elkannah Ayers m. Joannah_________ 2. Nancy Ayers m. (1) Jacob Johnson, Jr. and (2) Hiram Harrison Dean, son of Henry Harrison Dean, Sr. amd Charity Beamer 3. Keturah Ayers, m.
