Dodson, R.F.D., Monday morning, Oct. 5th. The people of this entire community were greatly shocked on Monday morning, Oct. 5th, to learn that William J. Bryant of Elamsville [Patrick Co.]S, age 58, had died suddenly of heart failure at J. I. Wood's mill near here where he had gone to get a load of feed stuff. He is survived by his widow and the following children, Homer L. Bryant of this place, Mrs. Ida Ratcliff of Spray, N.C., Mrs. Dora Aldridge of Roanoke, Mrs. Lena May of Bedford County, and King Bryant at home, and also two half sisters, Mrs. Arthur Via of Fieldale and Mrs.Annie Richardson of Bassett. Additional Comments: He died of a heart attack at the historic Goblintown Grist Mill which is still standing. At the time of his death, the mill was owned by John I. Wood and his wife. In a touch of irony, in January, 1942, the grist mill was purchased by Charlie Bishop Martin and his wife Lila Elizabeth Bryant Martin. Prior to his marriage to Lila, Charlie was married to William's sister Ellen Elizabeth Bryant who tragically succumbed to tuberculosis in 1918.
