THE HENRY BULLETIN, Martinsville, Va., Fri., May 19, 1933, p. 2, col. 3 
[edited].  Rev. Alexander Bryant, 82, retired Missionary Baptist minister, 
passed away at his home on the Stuart highway, about two miles west of the city 
late Monday evening following a heart attack and other complications.  He had 
been in declining health for the past several months.  Funeral services were 
held from Sycamore Baptist church in Patrick county Wednesday afternoon.  
Interment took place in the family burial ground near Buffalo Ridge.  Pall 
bearers included grandsons of the deceased while the flower bearers ere selected 
from the grand daughters of the minister.  Surviving is his wife, Jane Ross 
Bryant, and the following children:  Messrs. W. A. Bryant of Philadelphia, Pa.;  
J. T. Bryant of Akron, Ohio;  S. J. Bryant of Buffalo Ridge, Va., and H. O. 
Bryant of Martinsville;  Mesdames J. A. Foley of Buffalo Ridge, Va.;  J. F. 
Pilson of Vinton, Va.;  Z. H. Newman of this city, and Miss Melissa Bryant, also 
of Martinsville.  The deceased was a native of Patrick county, where he spent 
most of his life.  He served as pastor of the Sycamore Baptist church for 40 
years before his retirement from active ministerial duties about ten years ago.  
In his early life he attended the public schools of this native county and in 
young manhood taught school near his home for a number of years.  About five 
years ago he moved to Henry county to reside near Martinsville with relatives.
