THE DAILY BULLETIN, Martinsville, Va., Mon., Sept. 21, 1936, p.2, col. 1 [edited]. 

Stuart.  Funeral services for John H. (sic) Elgin, 81, were held from the home at 
Buffalo Ridge Monday afternoon.  He died Saturday night of a heart attack.  He is 
survived by two daughters and four sons:  Mrs. Laura Bryant of Buffalo Ridge and 
Mrs. Lula Balisles of Washington, D.C, and C. L. and C. W. Elgin of Buffalo  
Ridge, and Walter and Claude Elgin of Illinois and Cumberland county, 
respectively. 

Additional Comments:
The obituary omits that he was survived by his spouse, Abby Gail Whitlow Bryant 
Elgin who died in 1959.
