DODSON (Patrick Co.). Miss Mamie Emerson, a respected lady of this place passed away at her home here Sunday morning after a lingering illness of several years. She had been confined to her home for more than six years. The deceased was 65 years of age. She was buried Monday in the family burial ground near her home. She leaves five brothers, Willie, Jim, Dave, P. W. and Henry, and four sisters, Mrs. Jim Bryant of Endicott; Mrs. John Setliff and Misses Martha and Sarah Emerson of this place. [Her family is listed in the 1880 census, Smiths River, Patrick Co., Va., page 95A, all EMERSON surnames, all born Va.: Wade A., Head, Age 43, Farmer; Easter Jane, Wife, 40; Susan C., Dau., 22; John W., Son, 19; Matilda N. E., Dau., Age 16; Lucinda E., Dau., 14; Martha Jane, Dau., 12; David W., Son, Age 9; James J., Son, Age 8; Samuel J., Son, 5; Sarah Ann F., Dau., Age 2; Plesant W., Son, Age 2 months]. Additional Comments: She is buried in the Wade Emberson Cemetery which is located in Dodson between the American Power line and the Smith River.
