Hall Addie Rakes Hall of 977 South Mayo Drive, Stuart, the 105 year-old matriarch of 131 living descendants, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at her home. She was born April 3, 1895, in Patrick County, daughter of the late Robert Rakes and Rosa Belle Fain Rakes. Also preceding her in death were her husband, Tucker Hall, in 1962; and five children, Lena Hall, Foster Hall, Esther Cave, James Hall and Lois Johnson. She was a charter member of the True Gospel Baptist Church in Stuart. Surviving are five children, Gladys Coleman and Donald Hall, both of Stuart, Virgil Hall of Clarksville, Margaret Williams of Elkin, N.C., and Charlene Kennon of Reidsville, N.C.; one brother, Emmett Rakes of Burkeville; and one sister, Myrtle Palmateer of Danville. Also surviving are 31 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren; and six great-great-great- grandchildren. The funeral was held Monday at Howell Funeral Home on U.S. 58 East of Stuart with the Revs. J.R. Shelton and John Shelley officiating. Burial was in Mayo Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harold Hall, David Hall, Dean Hall, Chris Owens, Barry Vipperman, and Sandy Campbell. Arrangements were by Howell Funeral Home.
