This is a photograph of the remains of the old Emberson Mill.   This mill is 
located in a very remote area of Patrick County and is really nestled away in the 
foothills of the mountains.  It is almost two miles from any highway and is 
probably more accessible via boat than foot.  The mill is located near where Puppy 
Creek spills into the Smith River which ultimately forms Philpott Reservoir.  This 
mill was run by Wade Allen Emberson and Easter Jane Martin Emberson as well as 
their family who made their homeplace nearby.  During the tenure of the mill, it 
appears that Wade received a distiller's license several times.   It was almost 
completely covered by water at one time but due to a lack of rain in the fall of 
2021, the water levels had fallen considerably.
