Lyon/Philpott Bond, 1830 Know all men by these Presents, That we John Lyon & Saml Sharp are held and firmly bound unto John Floyd Esq. Governor or Chief Magistrate of the Commonwealth of Virginia, in the just and full sum of one hundred and fifty dollars, to be paid to the said Governor and his successors, for the use of the said Commonwealth, for the payment whereof well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, and each of us, our and each of our heirs, executors and administrators. Sealed with our seals, and dated this 16th (?) day of December 1830 The condition of the above obligation is such, That whereas a marriage is shortly intended to be had and solemnized between the above bound John Lyon of Patrick and Sarah F. Philpott of the county of Patrick Now, if there is no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage, then the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
