THIS DEED, made the 31st day of December in the year 1850 between James H. Beasley and Mary L. Beasley, his wife, of the one part and Thomas D. Steward of the other part all of the City of Petersburg, witnesseth, that in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars, cash in hand paid or secured to be paid, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged they the said James H. Beasley & wife do grant unto the said Thomas D. Steward a certain piece or parcel of land lying and being in said City situate on the South Side of Plumb Street and is bounded by the lot of the late Mary Moseby on the West , George P. Ramspeck on the East, and David M. Crowder on the South, being the same lot conveyed by deed from Anderson Tucker and Martha his wife to said Beasley by deed dated the 31st day of January 1846 and of record in the Clerks office of the Hustings Court of the City of Petersburg with all appurtenances thereto belonging. And the said James H. Beasley covenant that he has a right to convey the land and appurtenances aforesaid and that he will warrant the same generally unto the said Thomas D. Stewart, witness the following signatures and Seals. James H. Beasley (Seal) Mary L.(her+mark)Beasley (Seal) State of Virginia City of Petersburg, to wit} I Charles Corling a justice of the peace for the City aforesaid in the State of Virginia, do Certify that James H. Beasley whose name is signed to the writing hereto annexed bearing date on the 31st day of December 1850, has acknowledged the same before me in my City aforesaid Given under my hand this 1st day of January AD 1851. State of Virginia City of Petersburg to wit} We Charles Corling and John Pollard Justices of the peace in and for the City aforesaid in the State of Virginia, do hereby Certify that Mrs. Mary L. Beasley, the wife of James H. Beasley whose names are signed to the writing hereto annexed having date on the 31st day of December 1850 personally appeared before us in our said City and being examined by us privily and apart from her husband and having the writing aforesaid fully explained to her, she, the said Mary L. Beasley acknowledged the said writing to be her act and declared that she had willingly executed the same and does not wish to retract it. Given under our hands this 1st day of January 1851. Cha's. Beasley and wife to Thomas D. Stewart, was this day lodged in the said office and together with the Certificates thereto annexed admitted to record, the tax on the same having been first paid.
