Hardy Buried Saturday in Petersburg, Va. Mrs. Jane L. Mahood Hardy, 82, mother of Representative Porter Hardy, Jr., of the Second Congressional District, died Thursday, April 13th, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.M. Batten, at Smithfield. Mrs. Hardy was born and reared in Petersburg, later moving to Lynchburg, where she taught school. She was the widow of the Rev. Porter Hardy, Methodist minister, the daughter of the late Alexander Benjamin Mahood and Helen W. Phillips Mahood. She is survived by five children, Mahood P. Hardy of Churchland; Mrs. J. Earl Moreland of Ashland; Miss Francis Hardy of Norfolk; Mrs. Batten, and Representative Hardy of Churchland. Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. L.D. Horner, of Lynchburg; seven grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 15th at 11 A.M. at the Batten home at Smithfield by the Rev. Herbert Southgate, pastor of Trinity Methodist Church, Alexandria. Burial was in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. (Find a Grave Mems. #28285927 & #28285853) Her brother-in-law Samuel HARDY was convicted of murdering Tiberius Gracchus JONES, 26 Oct 1908, in Holland. Aided by his brother and other prominent supporters, he was pardoned Xmas 1920.
