Robert L. Smith. 

  Robert L. Smith, an inmate of Lee Camp Soldiers' Home, died last night at 
that institution, aged seventy-two years. 

  During the war he was a member of Company E, Tenth Virginia Cavalry.  He 
was a native of Petersburg, where he had a number of relatives.  He entered 
the home May 2, 1898.  The body will be taken to Petersburg to-day for 
interment in Blandford Cemetery.

They Will Follow Their Custom on Memorial Day at Petersburg. 
TWO OLD SOLDIERS DIE 
Committee on Battlefield Park Has Not Yet Been Appointed.

  A.P. Hill Camp of Confederate Veterans met last night, transacted routine 
business and decided, as is customary, to parade on Memorial Day, June 9, and 
take part in the exercises in Blandford Cemetery.  The Ladies' Memorial 
Association met this afternoon and completed the arrangements for the 
exercises to be held on Memorial Day. 

     Two More Veterans Dead. 

  James Hardy, an old and highly esteemed citizen, died yesterday at the home 
of his son-in-law, P.M. Kilmartin, at Waverly, and his funeral took place 
here this morning, with services at the grave in Blandford Cemetery.  Mr. 
Hardy was widely known in the community as a man of integrity and high 
character.  He served gallantly throughout the war in Mahone's Brigade, made 
a fine record as a soldier, and participated in the many battles in which that 
famous brigade was engaged.  He was a member of A.P. Hill Camp of Confederate 
Veterans, and his comrades turned out to pay tribute of respect to his memory. 
Mr. Hardy is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Kilmartin, and two 
sisters. 

  Robert Leroy Smith, another Petersburg veteran, died yesterday afternoon in 
the Soldiers' Home in Richmond, of which he had been an inmate for some time. 
He was a printer by trade, and had worked in the various cities of the State 
at times.  He was in the seventy-second year of his age, and was a man of 
genial disposition and liberal education.  The remains were brought to 
Petersburg this afternoon, and the burial was in Blandford Cemetery. 

           News in Brief. 

  President Patteson has not yet appointed the committee on the Petersburg 
battlefield park, as authorized by the Council, and will probably not do so 
until the Board of Aldermen concurs in the resolution.
