PITTSYLVANIA CO., VA - CEMETERIES – Dickerson Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Dickenson [i.e. Dickerson] graveyard: 1936 Nov. 11 Research made by Lona Dalton Cemetery Location: 4 miles east of Gretna, Virginia, on Route #40, thence 3 miles south on Route 685, 100 yards on the north side of the road. Pittsylvania Co., Virginia DATE: 1757. OWNERS: Originally in possession of the Dickerson family. Now owned by Mrs. Forest Barksdale. (1937) DESCRIPTION: In a field only a short distance from the old Dickerson home was found these two old stones the only ones in this plot which contain inscriptions. By the aids of these graves there is the Imhoff family graves, which are wired in and separate from these two Dickerson graves. The stones are hand carved from soapstone and moss covered from age, but are in a very good condition considering their age. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Sacred to the memory of Griffith Dickerson Who died the 16th day of October 1843 aged 86 years two months and eight days He has been a minister of the gospel for upwards of 40 years of the Baptist Denomination and died trusting in a crucified Savior.
