The grave is on the west side of Route #863, located between the colored school and the colored church. Pittsylvania Co., Virginia DATE: 1840 OWNERS: Unknown DESCRIPTION: There are four persons buried in this one grave, which is mounded up high, about three feet, covered over with concrete. There is a slab at one end with the following inscription: HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Sacred to the Memory of Elizabeth Fleemon, aged 43 years Eliza Fleemon, aged 23 years Articia Fleemon, aged 5 months Who was supposed to be murdered by James L. Lanier 24th December, 1840. After all was murdered but William, he caught Lanier around the legs and cryed have mercy and don’t kill me but Lanier would not forbear.
