PITTSYLVANIA CO., VA - CEMETERIES – Moorman Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Moorman graveyard: 1937 Mar. 19 Research made by Lona Dalton Cemetery Location: .75 mile northwest of Callands, Virginia on Route #41, 100 yards from the road on the west side. Pittsylvania Co., Virginia DATE: 1804. OWNERS: Originally in possession of the Moorman family. Owned now by Mrs. Semones. (1937) DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is situated in a large field, and can be seen from quite a distance. The entire lot is enclosed with a plank fence, and an old fashioned split gate at the entrance. On each side of the gate there is a cedar, which overlaps near the top, and being tied also with climbing ivy it forms very artistically an arch. Passing through this gate we find an iron fence with the name William A. Dickerson on the gate, which is securely fastened with an iron pin. This fence encloses only one grave. Just ahead there is a row of graves, then to the left another steel fence which contains only a twin stone. In the center of the large enclosure is a very large spruce with many smaller tree boxwoods. The Dickerson grave has the carved sides resembling an old fashioned bed. The head stone is about four feet high and resembles a carved picture frame with this inscription: HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: In memory of William A.
