The graveyard is on the east side of the road. Pittsylvania Co., Virginia DATE: 1836 OWNERS: Rev. James H. Stone prior to 1854 and his descendants. Elizabeth Stone, wife 1854 – 1865 Samuel Stone 1865-1874 DESCRIPTION: This is one of the best kept family graveyards to be found in this county. It has a high rock wall under which a concrete foundation has been made. The graveyard is situated on a high knoll in a wide open field, almost a half mile from the original home. One fourth of an acre was reserved in 1874 when the home passed out of the Stone family. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Sacred to the Memory of Rev. James H. Stone Born 17th October 1778 Married Elizabeth Fitzgerald 8th Sept. 1803 Joined the Baptist Church 3rd Oct. 1812 at Shockoe and was ordained to the ministry April 10th, 1832 and died April 16th, 1854 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God. In Memory of Emily W. daughter of James H. & Elizabeth Stone Born Aug. 23, 1823 Died Aug. 10, 1858 Behold he taketh away who can hinder Him, Who shall say unto Him, What doest thou? H. & Elizabeth Stone Born 14th Nov. 1810 Married 5th Oct. 1837 and departed this life 30th Dec. 1849 Here lies the body of Verelia Rainey Born 19th Sept. 1849 Died 28th May 1850 Sacred to the memory of Susan P. Consort of John A. Mohr Born 8th May 1820 Married 24th Decr. 1840 Died 14th May 1855 leaving 6 children, 4 daughters and 2 sons to mourn her loss 11th Chapter 28th Vs. of John “The Master is come and calleth for Thee.” I hope in heaven my Pa I shall meet And when I am buried put me at his feet. Rev. James H. Stone was first given license to preach in the year 1828. He was ordained to the ministry in 1832 and continued to preach the gospel of the Baptist faith until his death in 1854.
