The grave is on the south side of the road, near the “Dabney House”. Pittsylvania Co., Virginia DATE: 1837 OWNERS: The grave is located on the land now owned by the Episcopal Diocese. They operate a small hospital at the village of Peytonsburg, Virginia, known as the “Dabney House”. DESCRIPTION: This grave is situated in a very seclusive place, in a large body of pine trees, with no enclosure. There is no other grave, just the one. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: In the memory of Mrs. Ann Spotswood Sydnor Who was born on the 10th of October 1808 and departed this life on the 19th of April 1837 In hope of a blissful memory. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord I can find no information regarding Ann Sydnor, but no doubt her old home stood near this place, as it is said that an old house once stood nearly. In the year 1922, Rev. Chiswell Dabney was instrumental in establishing the little hospital, now known as the “Dabney House” the land on which this grave is located. I have also been told that the land on which the “Dabney House” stands was given by Mrs. J.L. Singleton of Peytonsburg, deceased. This hospital is now operated by the Episcopal Diocese.
