Pittsylvania Co., Virginia DATE: 1859. OWNERS: There are no records as to owners, although this is said to be the Old Townes graveyard. DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is enclosed with a high rock wall. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Sacred to the Memory of Catherine H. Townes Consort of Stephen C. Townes Born 18th Sept. 1797 Died 4th June 1859 Aged 61 yrs. 9 mos. 14 days In Memory of Stephen C. Townes Born Aug. 4, 1796 Died July 10, 1876 Aged 79 yrs. 11 mos. 6 days Loved ones meet in Heaven In Memory of Capt. Thomas J. Turner Born June 10, 1840 Died April 27, 1866 of disease contracted in the Army. Look on my friends as you pass by, as you are now so once was I. As I am now you soon must be, prepare for death and follow me. In Memory of Sergeant John W. Turner son of Jas. H. & Sarah E. Turner Born Jan. 16, 1838 Died in Richmond, Va. in his 25th year of wounds received at Seven Pines. John was a dutiful son, an affectionate brother and a faithful soldier of the 38th Regiment of Va. volunteers.
