There are several boxwoods nearby and beautiful trees. It has no fence but remains in good condition. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: George Wilson, who first settled the home known as “Laurel Cliff” received the plantation of 1,115 acres in 1818 from his father John Wilson. Not only was he a large land owner but owner of numbers of slaves. He laid off the magnificent flower gardens in which there are standing huge box arbors. He owned boats and ferry, the only means of crossing Dan River in that end of the county before his death. This was known as Wilson’s Ferry and today the road leading down to the river is called the Ferry road.
