Gray/Anderson Deed, 1793 Pittsylvania County, Virginia Deed Book 9, p. 325 This Indenture made this fifth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety three between James Gray and Lucy his wife of Pittsylvania County of the one part and Jacob Anderson of the same county of the other part Witnesseth that the said James Gray and Susy his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and eighty pounds current money of Virginia to them in hand paid before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged by the said James Gray and Lucy his wife who have given granted bargained sold conveyed delivered unto the said Jacob Anderson his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land situated lying and being in Pittsylvania County being the land whereon the said Gray formerly lived containing by estimation two hundred sixty five & a half acres more or less and bounded as follows to wit Beginning at a corner red oak in Wimbush's line thence twenty degrees West twenty six poles to a WHite Oak in Mann's line thence by a new line South along his line thirty five degrees East one hundred and sixty four poles to an Elm thence by a new line North forty degrees East nenety four poles to a White oak thence North fifty four degrees east one hundred and thirty poles to a white oak thence one hundred and eight poles to a red oak thence North seventy five degrees west one hundred and fifty four poles to a Branch where Martins line begins thence south twenty six poles thence south fourteen degrees east twenty poles thence down the said Branch as it meanders seventy poles to a branch thence a new line south twelve and half degrees west thirty poles to a gum on Justice's Spring branch where Wimbishes line crosses thence along said line to the beginning together with all and singular the privileges and appertainances to the said land belonging or in any wise appertaining to have and to hold the aforesaid land and premises unto him the said Jacob Anderson his heirs and assigns forever against whom the said James Gray and Lucy his wife their heirs and assigns and against the claim or claims demand or demands of all and singular any other person or persons whatsoever by these presents do warrant and will forever defend In witness whereof the said James Gray and Susy his wife have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year above written.
