John Barnett/James Linn Deed, 1798

Deed Book 11, p. 379

This Indenture made this second day of August in the year of our Lord one 
thousand seven hundred and ninety eight Between John Barnett and James Linn 
both of the County of Pittsylvania and State of Virginia Witnesseth that the
said John Barnett for and in consideration of the Bonds hereinafter 
mentioned and received hath granted Leased and Devises and by these presents
do grand lease and devise unto the said James Linn and his heirs executors 
and assings a certain piece or parcel of land situated on the North west 
side of the Town of Danville and adjoining the same Bounded as followeth Viz
Beginning at the Corner of William Barnett and William Spillers Lots, thence
with said William Spillers lot untill across the ally, thence with the 
course of the ally from the Town across the branch to a red oak corner 
thence a straight course to a branch of Acters Creeks in the branch below 
the town yard thence Southward to a small red oak marked, thence to a small 
pine opposite ... yard orchard, thence to the beginning To have and to hold 
the said parcel of land with all the appertenances within ....the said James 
Linn his heirs and assings from the first day of May last for and during the
Term of Nineteen years ... paying ...unto the said John Barnett or his heirs
or assings the sum of four pounds yearly and every year the said sum to 
become due at the experiation of each year. Witness whereof the said John 
Barnett have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and date first above 
written

Achilles Whitlock      At a Court held for Pittlyvania County
William Spiller        October the 15th 1798 This Indenture
Chas Hoyle             was presented in Court and acknowledged
Thomas Stewart         by the within named John Barnett to be
Charles Payne          his act and deed, Ordered that the same
John Payne             recorded. Test  Will Tunstall  C. C.
