VA CHATHAM COURTHOUSE, PITTSYLVANIA CO., VIRGINIA Book 29, page 67 Gift Deed -- Garrett from Garrett 9 March 1827 Know all men, by these presents that we, Thomas Garrett and Ann Garrett my wife of Pittsylvania County and State of Virginia for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which we bear to John Garrett our son of the same place as well as for the further consideration of one dollar to us in hand paid by the said John Garrett, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and yet for the further cause of the sd Gohn Garretts being unfortunately afflicted cripple and infirm hath given and granted by these presents do give grant to the said John Garrett his executors administrators and assigns one certain tract or parcel of land with a saw mill therein contained the use and profits of which sd mill I will hold to myself for my lifetime in the County aforesaid on the South fork of Sandy River, being part of the tracat whereon we now reside, containing by late survey one hundred and two acres be the same more or less and bounded as follows to wit: Beginning at a black walnut tree, on the north fork of the said south fork or creek, then W new line N57 W58 ps crossing the creek to a red oak N48 W28ps crosing a branch to a white Oak N81 W15 ps to a red oak N55 E60 ps to pointers near a branch thence crossing the branch S45 E58 ps to pointer in S45 W89 ps crossing a branch to a white oak N20 W33 ps crossing a branch to a sycamore near the creek thence crossing the same N81 W14 ps to a maypole S78 W84 ps crossing the creek to the beginning; and also we give at the same time and for the same divers good causes unto the said John Garrett one mulatto boy named Peter to have and to hold the above land and slaves as his own right and property to him his heirs and assigns and we the said Thomas Garrett and wife will warrant and forever defend the above land and premises and the said slave from the just or lawful claim or claims of ourselves our heirs and all and every other person whatsoever so as not to deprive sd John Garrett or his heirs from any portions in our estate that he or they could have derived therefrom in case the foregoing donation had never been made. In Testimony whereof we do hereunto set and affix our hand and seals this ninth day of March 1827.
