Thomas Jefferson Esquire governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia to all whom these presents shall come greetings Know ye that in Consideration of the ancient composition of thirty Shilling paid into the Treasury of this Commonwealth by Garrot Groce there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said Garrot Groce a Certain Tract or parcel of Land Containing One hundred and twenty five acres by survey bearing Date the fourteenth day of May one thousand Seven hundred and Sixty seven lying and being in the County of Pittsylvania formerly Halifax on the Branches of the upper double Creek and bounded as followeth to with Beginning at William Payne Seniors corner white oak thence along his lines North Twenty seven degrees East forty poles Crossing a Branches pointers South seventy nine degrees East one hundred and thirty six poles to a pine South thirty five Degrees West two hundred and eighteen poles to pointers in Birds line thence along the same North forty two Degrees West forty six poles to a pine North eight Degrees West Fifty poles to a pine north one degree West one hundred and Seven poles to the Beginning with its appurtenances to have and to hold the said Tract or parcel of Land with its appurtenances to the said Garrot Groce and his Heirs forever In witness whereof Thomas Jefferson Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia hath hereunto Set his hand and Caused the Seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond on the twentieth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and eighty and of the Commonwealth the fifth Thomas Jefferson 20 July 1780, Pittsylvania County, 312 acres on the branches of Birches Creek, and adjoining Joseph Terry.
