Name: Abner Adkins, age 60 --wounded at the Battle of Chancellorsville by a ball which shattered his jaw: tongue shortened and teeth knocked out with paralysis of chin. These cited by Dryden Wright in a letter interceding on his behalf. Pittsylvania County, Virginia--resident of Museville, VA Member of: 21st Virginia Regiment of Infantry, I Company I, William Smith, Notary Public in and for the County of Pittsylvania do certify that Abner Adkins whose name is signed to the foregoing application, personally appeared before me in my county, and, having the said application fully read and explained to him, as well as the statements and answers therein made, he the said Abner Adkins made oath before me that said statements and answers are true. Given under my hand this 14th day of March, 1904. Signed: William Smith (Beneath the signature is a note that says "My cousin expired Sept. 29, 1905) Martha his wife received the pension thereafter. PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VIRGINIA TO WIT: I, J. D. Coles, Judge of the County Court for the County of Pittsylvania, do certify that I have carefully enquired and examined into, and am fully satisfied from the evidence adduced before me that each and all of the facts set forth in the within application are true; that the applicant is the identical person name in the application; that the application is for the reasons approved, and it is therefore certified that Abner Adkins is entitled to receive annually from the State of Virginia the sum of fifteen dollars.
