Name: Dorothy Starn Carter Age 71 as of 1914 Widow of Christopher Carter Married Feb. 14, 1862, husband died June 24, 1901, Pittsylvania County, Va (gretna) Member of: Company B, 38th Va Infantry under Capt. Cabell and Col. Griggs, Carter enlisted in 1864 and no records were found to substantiate that he had gotten a horse for the war; the commonwealth needed more detail as to circumstances and this is the response: Dear Sir: My husband C. L. Carter was detailed to get a horse in Dec. 1864 and came home on a furlough to get his horse and was then detailed by the government to run a mill for the benefit of the soldierső wives and captains which he did until the war closed.
