Burton, Both From Cascade Pittsylvania County, Va--Cascade Member Of: Armistead's Division, Company I, 57th Va Regt. Letter In File Dated Oct. 24, 1914 To John H. Johnson, Pension Clerk: Dear Sir: Your Letter Of Yesterday About Pension Of Lizzie Manuel....The Pension Board Of Pittsylvania County Has Not Held A Meeting Since Early In July. I Do Not Suppose The Board Will Meet Before Next May. The Chairman, Capt. John R. Yeatts Is More Than 75 Years Old And Lives Some 12 Or 15 Miles From Hear. I Do Not See Any Use Of Pulling The Board Together Abour Manuel. I Saw The Gentleman This Morning Who Told Me Last August That He Heard Mrs. Manuel Deserted Her Husband, He Says He Does Not Know Of His Own Knowledge Anything About Her Case, Just Heard Rumors. I Do Not Know Mrs. Manuel Or Anything About Her Case. I Suppose She Lives Some 25 Miles From Chatham. I Do Not Know Mrs. Deering. Mr. S. B. Haley Is A Justice Of The Peace In That Portion Of The County. Messrs J. Buntor, Sr. H. H. Long, O. L. Auctin And Ike Eanes Reside In That Portion Of The Country. I Would Believe What They Would Say. The Only Thing I See You Can Do Is To Pay Her For 1914 And Have The Pension Board Look Into The Matter Next Spring. I Am Satisfied The Members Of The Pension Know Nothing About The Case. Yours Very Truly, S. S. Hurt. ***Transcriber Could Find No Readable Document Of This Allegation; No Further Files Were Included.
