Infantry Added At Bottom Of Mitchell's Pension Application The Following From Mrs. Sallie H. F. Jones, Chm. Of Relief Comm/, Rawley Martin Chapter, U. D. C. Mr. William A. Mitchell Appealed To Me As A Daughter Of The Confederacy To Aid Him In Securing A Pension. He Stated That He Guarded Prisoners Under Capt. Dick Moorman At Danville And That When It Was Thought The Yankeess Were Coming He Came To Help Guard The Courhouse At The Call Of Dr. Martin. Upon Investigation I Found That Capt. Moorman Commanded A Company Of Young Men From Pittsylvania At Danville The Last Year Of The War. In The Military Records Of Pittsylvania County Filed In The Clerk's Office It Is Shown That Dr. Chesley Went Out When They Heard That Gen. Hunter Was To March Through Pittsylvania County--Mr. Mitchell Could Not Remember Whether This Was Before Or After His Service In Danville. Given Under My Hand This 18th Day Of October, 1930.
