Name and Age: Martha W. Scarce, age 74 on Feb 16 as of 1930, resided with her niece, Mrs. Roy Dickinson, married on Jan. 22, 1890 at Danville by H. M. Hope Widow of:William David Scarce who died in July,1911 of heart trouble. Comrades of veteran: VA town: Cascade Member of: Letter in file to Mr. Bradley, Clerk of the Court of the City of Danville, dated 5/7/1930: Dear Mr. Bradley, I have writin for a pension for a widow of a confederate soljer: William David Scarce and Martha Wimbish Green Scarce she clamis she was married in the citty of Danville in the year 1889 but does not know the preachers name or the day. she was married she can't read had no reccord to go by she is very poor and needs the money I thought you might find out from the reccord when she was married. Response to Haley showed she was married in 1890 with the cost of $1.50 for the copy but, "of course she is unable to pay this fee" and Otis Bradley was glad to do his part in helping her.
