  NEWPORT NEWS - Albert 'Al' William Smith, 93, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007.
  He was born on July 5, 1914, in Portsmouth, Va., the son of William Albert and 
  Susie Colbey Smith. He was a resident of Newport News since 1954 and a member 
  of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church for over 50 years. 
  Mr. Smith retired as General Manager of Rich's Supermarkets after 25 years, 
  and began a second career with Berrane Enterprises, retiring a second time at 
  the age of 89.
  He was a 50 year member of Hunter's Masonic Lodge, A.F. & A.M., Blacksburg, 
  Va. and a former member of the Williamsburg Country Club.
  Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Marion 
  Tallman Smith; and a son, Albert Colbey Smith. He was the last surviving 
  member of his family of four brothers and two sisters.
  A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be 
  conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Peninsula Memorial Park, with the Rev. Dr. 
  Robert Marston officiating.
  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. 
  Andrew's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 45 Main Street, Newport News, VA 
  23601, or a favorite charity.
  Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
