Palmore Cemetery Location: 3 miles east of Fire Creek Post Office, turn right to Route #614, follow this 2.4 miles, leave 614 keep straight on dirt road 1 mile, turn left, go .3 mile, walk .8 mile to house. Powhatan Co., Virginia DATE: Late 1700 or early 1800. OWNERS: Patrick Harris DESCRIPTION: There are only a few rocks left to mark the site of this old home. This tract originally contained 900 acres of land. It has been divided into three farms. There is the foundation of the old Harris Mill .8 mile southeast of the old house site. Southeast of the home site is the graveyard, enclosed by a rock wall, most of which has tumbled into a heap. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Mr. Joe Harris says the Rosalie Poe piano was gotten from “Hall-Sink”, home of LaPrade, the McKenzies moved from “Sherwood” to “Hall-Sink”. While here the piano was turned over to Dr. Turpin on a doctor’s bill for $100.00. Dr. Turpin gave the piano to his daughter, Mrs. David Sledd, who died a little more than a year ago [1936]. The piano remains in the family. The following inscriptions are to be found on the stones in the graveyard: Francis Harris Wife of Col. Thos.
