It measures (bound) approx.3 3/4" x 5 3/4". The leather bindings are embossed morocco with gold leaf design and lettering. It was given to me in the mid 1990's by my uncle, Charles Clinton Edwards of Richmond, VA. Previous to his possession, it had resided with his mother, Kathleen Caughy Edwards at her home in Richmond. The inside of the front cover bears an adhesive "sticker," depicting a bouquet of flowers (probably roses) in the upper left corner. The age of this sticker appears to be the same as the bible. There are 4 leaves of unprinted paper in the front and 2 in the back, upon which the family has inscribed various notes of births, deaths, and marriage. Some of the handwriting is recognizable to me, and attribution is made based on my knowledge of the script. No attribution is made for an unrecognizable hand. A handwritten note on a separate piece of loose paper, undated, written by Kathleen Edwards: This Bible belonged to Mrs. Landon Brame Edwards (Nancy [sic] Pettyjohn Rucker). She gave it to her son, Landon Beirne Edwards a short while before she died. To this paper is added the following by Landon B. Edwards III, dated 1998: Inside front cover bears a paper sticker identical to one seen on letter paper used by Leroy S. Edwards while in (Confederate) Army of Northern Va. Letters preserved at Randolph-Macon College, Ashland, VA. It is therefore possible that this Bible originally belonged to Eliz. Agnes Clark, wife of Rev. John Ellis Edwards, as Leroy's letters home request writing paper, etc. be sent to him. [Eliz. Clark Edwards was the mother-in-law of Nannie Rucker Edwards]. Inscription 1: Landon Brame Edwards writes: L. B. Edwards married to Nannie Pettyjohn Rucker 17th Jan. (Tuesday morning), 7 a.m., 1871-Lynchburg, Va.
