Buford's Detachment 1806-1830 Prince Edward County Widow: Mary See also: Boush, Goodrich It appearing to the Court that Thomas Brooks, late a soldier in the Continental Service in Colonel Buford's Detachment,departed this life in 1779, while a soldier in that service, leaving Mary Brooks his widow & five children, the oldest seventeen and the youngest seven years, & that the said Mary--having little property is in indigent circumstances. Order that the same be certified the Auditor of public accounts. Copy Teste Watkins CEH At a Court held for Prince Edward County Feb. 15 1790 On the motion of Mary Brooks, widow of Thomas Brooks, deceased. It appears to the Court that said Mary is the widow of Thomas Brooks who departed this life while a soldier in Col. Buford's Detachment-that the said Mary is now a widow living in this county--that the decedant left her in indigant circumstances with several children _____ _____ that she is not of bodily ability to support herself by her own industry . Ordered that the same be certified and that the sheriff pay her the sum of ten pounds according to law ____ _____ _____ and that the sheriff pay her the further sum of ten pounds for the year 1788. **Mary moved to Buckingham County and died October 16 1830. Last payment of $26.38, normally $33.33, May 12, 1830.
