Will of Christian Baker, 1795 - Prince Edward Co. VA 1795 Dec 25. Prince Edward Co, VA Will Bk 3, p 14. Christian Baker Will written 01 Apr 1795 proved. In the Name of God Amen. I Christian Baker of the County of Prince Edward & Parish St. Patrick, being weak in Body, but Sound in mind & memory, & knowing it's appointed for all to die, & the uncertainty our Continuance in this World of trouble, do make & ordain this my last Will & Testament in manner & form as following. I give unto God my Soul that gave it, hoping for the General Resurrection at the last day, & as touching my Worldly Goods, I give them as follows Viz. I give unto Mary Ritchey, Wife of Alexander Ritchey, Senr. the Sum of Twenty pounds Cur. money of Virginia to her & her Heirs for ever. I give my Niece, Christian Ritchey Daughter of Hugh Ritchey, the Sum of Twenty pounds, Cur. money of Virginia to her & her Heirs for ever. I give unto my Nephew, Hugh Ritchey, Jun., Son of Hugh Ritchey, the Sum of Twenty pounds Cur. money of Virginia to him & his heirs forever. I give unto my Niece, Mary Ritchey, Daughter of Charles Ritchey, dec'd, my Bay mare that's now with fold [foal] & in case the colt dies, my mu___eres ___ that __________ I give unto my Cousin Mary Ritchey, Daughter of Hugh Ritchey. I give unto my Niece Christian Hamilton my Negro girl Easter, to her & her Heirs for ever, with all her future Increase & lastly my will & desire is that all the Residue of my Estate of Negro's, Stock of every kind, Household & Kitchen Furniture be Sold at Twelve Month's Credit & out of such Estate, to Raise the above Sums of money before given, & the Remainder of all such estate after the Said Sums of money is paid I give unto my Nephew Hugh Ritchey, to him & his Heirs for ever, my will & desire is that my Said Negroes be sold at the discretion of my Executors to those that the said Negroes wish to go to, as Masters. I Constitute & appoint my Nephew Hugh Ritchey & my Neighbor William T. Walker, as Executors of this my last Will & Testament Revoking all wills here before made by me as witness my hand & Seal this first day of April 1795. Signed Sealed & acknowledged to be her last will & Testament before me her Christian ( X ) Baker mark R. Foster, Hutchins Mathews, John Nelson At Court held for Prince Edward County December 21st 1795 This Last Will and Testament of Christian Baker deceased was Presented in Court and Proved by the Oaths of two of the Witnesses thereto. Ordered that the same be Recorded-- On the motion of Hugh Ritchie and William T. Walker, Executors therein named who with James Price and Benjamin Thaylon, their Securities, entered into and acknowledges their bond in the penalty of one Thousand Pounds Conditioned as the Law directs Certificate for obtaining a probate thereof in due ____ Granted them.
