Will of Richard Blanton, Sr., 1799 - Prince Edward Co. VA In the name of God Amen I Richard Blanton Snr. of Prince Edward County being sick and weak but of sound mind and memory and calling to mind the certainty of death and the uncertainty of life doth make and ordain this my last will and Testament(Wit) I am purpose to give and bequeath in manner and form as followeth, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Ellenor Blanton my plantation and sufficient of wood saved to support her during her widowhood also my Negroes stock of all land plantation utensils with all my household and kitching furniture under the care of my son Joshua Blanton to be kept together and if she should die to be under the care of my son in law George Davison. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Peggy Blanton one Nigro girl by the name of Clarisa a feather bed furniture ????????????????? and a horse and saddle to her and her heirs forever. I give and bequeath unto my son William Blanton one Negro boy by the name of Dick to him and his heir forever. I give and bequeath unto my sons Joshua Blanton and James Blanton all my land lying on the south side of the road to be equally divided between them to them and their heirs forever. I give and bequeath unto my sons Richard Blanton and John Blanton all my land lying on the north side of the road and if my son John Blanton should not return that my son in law George Davison should have his part of his land to them and their heirs forever. I also give unto my sons Joshua Blanton and James Blanton the privilege of getting any Timber that they should want to support the plantation or any necessary buildings that they should want and if either of my sons should died without heir, that their land should be equally divided between my said surviving sons that I have above given land to them and their heirs forever and also my desire is that my daughter Peggy Blanton should have a house and maintenance her and her’s with her mother during the time she lives single, and also my will and desire is that all the property that I have given to my beloved wife at her death should be equally divided between all my children inclusive of the land and also that my will and desire is that my just debts should be paid out of the profits of my Estate. I also appoint my beloved wife, son Joshua Blanton, and my son in law George Davison Executors of this my last will and Testament. Test his John Sligh Richard ^ Blanton Seal John Richards John Yale mark August 11h 1799 This court held for Prince Edward County, February 17, 1800 This last will and Testament of Richard Blanton deceased was presented in Court and proved by the Oaths of John Richards and John Yale two of the witnesses thereto ordered that the same be Recorded on the motion of Joshua Blanton and George Davidson executors therein named who with Simon Walters and Peter Nunnally their securities entered into and acknowledged their bond for that purpose in the penalty of Three Thousand pounds and conditioned according to said certificate for obtaining a probate thereof in all forms is granted them.
