Hamlin Cemetery Location: 1.3 miles west of Prince George Courthouse, on Route #37; thence .8 mile south on Route #630; thence .7 mile east on private road. Prince George Co., Virginia DATE: 1833, date of oldest grave [marker] OWNERS: The farm belongs to Hugh, Thomas D. and Horace Birchett, at the present time [1937]. It has been the property of the Birchett family about one hundred and fifty years. DESCRIPTION: The graveyard is about fifteen feet square and is well kept. There are many flowers and several locust trees. There are two tombstones and one cement tomb. Peter Birchett’s home sit is near the graveyard. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The following inscriptions are found on the tombstones and tomb: Sacred to the memory of Peter Birchett Born in Prince George County Nov. 11, 1781 Where he lived until his death Dec. 18, 1855 He in his long life so well illustrated the virtues of public spirit and private benevolence as to secure the largest influence and the general esteem. Sacred to the memory of Eleanor F. wife of Capt. James Young and daughter of Peter and Martha Birchett Who died Oct. 18, 1833 aged 24 years In solemn silence, sweet repose, Virtue and youth this sod inclose. The sacred path of truth she trod, till called away to meet her God. Sacred to the memory of Mrs. Sarah Cooper Who departed this life on the 7th of Jan. 1846 in the 75th yr. of her age This tomb was erected by her son Joseph Cooper SOURCES OF INFORMATION: Informant: J.
