Harrison Cemetery Location: 6.4 miles northeast of Disputanta, Virginia, on Route #625; thence 1.2 miles on Route #616; thence .2 mile north of Route #616, on private road. Prince George Co., Virginia DATE: 1856, date of oldest grave [marker] OWNERS: This home was owned by Peter Chamblis Marks in 1840, he having bought it from a Mr. Eley. It was inherited by his son Peter Fletcher Marks. By the will of Peter Fletcher Marks, dated July 17, 1928, it was inherited by his niece and nephews, Marie H. Marks, Benjamin H. Marks and Robert C. Marks, the children of Chester Marks. They are the present owners. [1937] DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is a plot of ground twenty feet square, enclosed by a wood fence. It is located in an open field, with several cedar trees growing in the square. There are two tombstones, but there are other graves unmarked. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Inscriptions: To the memory of Alonza H. Marks son of Peter C. and Henrietta M.H.H. Marks born May 9, 1840 died Aug. 23, 1856 Age 16 yrs. 3 mo. 14 days Insatiate! Arches! Death! Thy shaft selected a bright victim one whose early and remarkable genius thirsty for knowledge suavity of disposition and gentle deportment won for him the admiration and esteem of all who knew him, gave signs of future greatness, and excited the proud hope of his parents and relatives. Earth bright transient Chaste as the morning dew, He sparkled, was exalted and went to heaven. Mary E. Adams Born July 23, 1823 Died Aug. 16, 1888 Our sisters left this world of woe For regions of eternal love Twas God who called her from below To join in praising him above.
