Hamlin Cemetery Location: 9.5 miles south of Petersburg, Virginia, on Route #301; thence .1 mile west on private road; thence 200 yards north of private road. Prince George Co., Virginia DATE: 1829. OWNERS: Timothy Rives III, the present owner [1937]. The property has been in the Rives family for many years. DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is about ten feet square, and is grown up with bushes and pine trees. There are a number of graves, but only two have tombstones. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This is the family graveyard of Dr. George E. Rives, prominent in Prince George County for many years. Over his grave is an imposing marble shaft bearing this inscription: George E. Rives, M.D. Born June 17, 1829 Died Nov. 4, 1884 Dulce et Decorum Est Pro Patria Mori Erected by the Democrats of the Fourth Congressional District of Virginia The other tombstone has the following inscription: In memory of Alice V. wife of Richard H. Marks and daughter of Dr. G.E.
