Harrison Cemetery Location: 4 miles east of Hopewell, Virginia, on Highway #10; thence 1.5 miles north on Route #641; thence 3 miles north of Route #641, on a private road. Prince George Co., Virginia DATE: 1844, date of oldest grave. [marker] OWNERS: Hon. Edmund Ruffin owned the estate, on which this graveyard is located, at the time of his death in 1807. It was inherited by his son, George Ruffin, then it was inherited by his son Edmund Ruffin (of the War Between the States) then it was inherited by his son, Edmund Ruffin, Jr. It was then inherited by his son, George C. Ruffin. The heirs of George C. Ruffin sold it to Kate L. and William W. Mays, on October 1, 1902, who sold it to David Dunlop, Jr., on October 21, 1902, who sold it to George W. and Josephine S. Endicott on August 14, 1909, who sold it to Sally Herndon and G. A. Walker on December 30, 1910, who sold it to Edgewood Realty Corporation on November 1, 1913, who sold it to E.B. and Mary P. Kelly on March 1, 1923, who sold it to Richard Crane of Westover, the present owner, on April 22, 1925. [1937] DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is on a hill overlooking Powell’s Creek, located in the edge of an oak forest. It is a beautiful spot nestled closely under the branches of an oak tree, whose trunk measures six feet and four inches in diameter. The grounds are nicely cleaned and enclosed with a barbwire fence. There are eight tombstones and several sunken spots which indicate there were other graves.
