Hamlin Cemetery Location: 3.5 miles south of Petersburg, Virginia, on Route #301; thence 1.7 miles west on Route #629; thence about 200 yards south of Route #629, in a field. Prince George Co., Virginia DATE: 1821, date of oldest grave [marker] OWNERS: The Richard Williams graveyard is on the farm of Joseph Birdsong. The farm was a part of the “Dick Williams Tract” and belonged to the Williams family for many years, the exact date cannot be learned as the records were destroyed during the War Between the States, until 1896 when R. C. Marks bought it from J. J. Cocke, Special Commissioner, appointed to settle the R. H. Williams estate. In 1897 it was bought by Vaclar and Christine Shredl. In 1908 it was bought by Joseph Birdsong, the present owner. [1937] DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is about twenty-five feet square and has grown up in honeysuckle and bushes. There are five tombstones. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The tombstones have the following inscriptions: To the memory of Major Richard Williams Born Aug. 4, 1775 and Departed this life June 1, 1845 Aged 71 yr. 8 mo. and 27 days To the memory of Mrs. Susan Eppes Williams Born Sept. 9, 1785 and Departed this life April 23, 1821 Aged 35 yr. 7 mo. and 14 days Leaving her husband and six infants alone to lament their irreparable loss. In memory of John B. son of Richard and Susan E. Williams Who departed this life June 16, 1821 Aged 4 mo. and 24 days Clara Maria daughter of Robert and Susan E. Harrison Died Nov. 1839 Aged 4 yr. In memory of Bettie wife of F. T.
