Will of Martha E. Beasley, 1897 - Prince George Co.VA. Will of Martha E. Beasley - 1897 (Will Book 2, page 94, Prince George Co.VA.) I, Martha E.Beasley, of the County of Prince George, State of Virginia, do make this my last Will revoking all previous Wills and codicils made by me. FIRST. I desire all my just debts to be paid. SECOND. I give to my daughter Mary A. Holden, five of my desert spoons and a marble top table. THIRD. I give to my daughters, Mattie B. White and Annie B. Clark, each one of my solid silver pitchers for their lives, at their death one pitcher is to go to my son John C. and one to my son William. FOURTH. I give to my daughter Annie B. Clark, my large silver ladle butter knife. FIFTH. I give to my daughter, Amanda O. Percivall, my sofa bed, six large silver forks six desert spoons and my silver tureen. SIXTH. I give to my son John C. Beasley large gold pencil gold case with his uncle John's picture in it. SEVENTH. I give to my son William the residue of my forks and spoons, not otherwise disposed of by me, all my chamber furniture also Bed- covering, all my pictures and books. EIGHTH. I give to my grand-daughter Mattie B. Johnson six silver tea spoons. NINTH. I give to my grand-daughter Annie B. Goodwyn, my gold watch and chain. TENTH. I give to my grand-daughter Fannie L. Wait my silver tongs, and my large china vases I had before the war. ELEVENTH. I give to my son in law George W. West, my silver pickle knife and fork combined. TWELFTH. I give to my grand-son Richard R. Percivall, one hundred and twenty five dollars, with interest from first day of March 1885. This is given him in lieu of a gold watch and chain left him by his uncle Richard R. Beasley. THIRTEENTH. I give and devise to my son William Beasley all the real estate of which I am possessed including my property in Birmingham and my Lamberts Point lot, also all the money or notes I may have at my death. FOURTEENTH. I appoint my son William, my executor, and desire that no security be required of him as such. WITNESS my hand this thiereenth day of December eighteen hundred and ninety five. Martha E. Beasley As I was compelled to take the rent of G.M. West for my own use, I desire and request that my children let the rent of the place go towards the education of West Holden as George M. West requested it should be applied for that purpose. M.E. Beasley Virginia: At a Hustings Court continued and held for the City of Petersburg, at the Courthouse thereof, on the 19th day of March, 1897. This paper writing purporting to be the last Will and Testament of Martha E. Beasley, deceased, late of this City, and codicil thereto, was produced in Court and offered for probate. And there being no subscribing witness thereto, Randall Holden and Robert Gilliam were sworn and severally deposed that they are well acquainted with the hand writing of the said Martha E. Beasley and verily believe the said writing and the signatures thereto to be wholly written by the testatrix's own hand. Whereupon the said writing is ordered to be recorded as and for the true last Will and Testament and codicil thereto of the said Martha E. Beasley, deceased. And on the motion of William Beasley, the executor named in the said Will, who made oath thereto and entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of fifteen hundred dollars,conditioned according to law, without security, the Will directing that none should be required and the Court not requiring any, Certificate is granted the said William Beasley for obtaining a probate of the said will and codicil in due form. Rawlings be collected and the proceeds be applied towards the payment of the legacy left by my son, Richard, to Richard Percivall, mentioned in my Will. This 27th day of June 1896. M.E. Beasley Virginia: At a Hustings Court continued and held for the City of Petersburg, at the Courthouse thereof, on the 25th day of March, 1897. This writing purporting to be a codicil to the last Will and Testament of M.E. Beasley, deceased, was produced in Court and offered for probate by William Beasley, executor of her last Will and testament. And there being no subscribing witnesses thereto, Robert Gilliam was sworn and deposed that he is well acquainted with the hand-writing of the said M.E. Beasley, deceased, and verily believes the said writing and the signature thereto subscribed to be wholly written by the said M.E. Beasley's own hand. Whereupon it is ordered that the said writing which is dated 27th day of June, 1896, be recorded as and for a true codicil to the said last Will and Testament of the said M.E.
