Will of Joseph Carter, 1721 - Prince George Co.VA. Will of Joseph Carter - 1721 (Deeds etc. 1713-28, page 472, Prince George Co.VA.) In the Name of God,Amen. I Joseph Carter of Pr.George County being sick and weak, but of perfect sence and memory do hereby appoint and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following.- First I bequeath my Soul to Almighty God our heavenly Father for his Everlasting Blessings, and my Body to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors.- Item. I give and bequeath to my Loveing wife a feather Bedd & furniture as it stands in the outer room, two Leather Chairs, one pewter dish two small Basons, one trunk & a Cow and Calfe.- Item. I give and bequeath to my son John one small Iron pott a spitt a Brass ladell and Skimmer, a Cow and Calfe, a pewter dish, one Large Bason, a Crosscut Saw & spice mortar.- Item. I give and bequeath to my son Joseph one chest, one Brass Kettle, one Large Bason and a Carbine.- Item. I give and bequeath to my son Richard, a feather bedd whereon he lyes, and a small bedd under, and furniture as it stands, a chest, a Gunn, a case of pistolls, and all my tools, two dishes, two porringers, six plates, a pair of Small stillyards, a Cow and Calfe, and two young Cattle, one frying pann, a Book the whole duty of man,my rideing horse, a young mair, two Leather Chairs, one Large Iron pott, one Large Bason, and halfe my hoggs which is about thirteen, and my wearing apparrell.- Item. I give and bequeath to my Daughter Ann, a feather bedd in the inner room, and furniture as it stands, one chest, one small trunk, two pewter dishes, eight plates, two porringers, one Large Bason, one Box Iron, a Cow with Calfe, three young Cattle, a small brass skillet, one Large Bible, a pewter Tankard, two Leather chairs, one Large Iron pott, my old mair, and the first fole as the young mair brings & halfe my hoggs.- Item. my Desire is that my son Richard shall be set at his Liberty at the age of Eighteen, and be possest with his Estate, but if he should depart this life before he comes to that age, then I desire my Daughter Ann may have it, and if she should depart this Life before she comes to the age of Eighteen or married, then I desire Richard may have what I have left her.- And Lastly I desire that my Estate shall not be appraised, and do hereby appoint my two sons John & Joseph my whole and sole Executors of this my Last will and Testament. The above written Last Will and Testament of Joseph Carter dec'ed. was presented into Court by John Carter and Joseph Carter his Executors, who made oath thereto, and it being proved by the oaths of John Hamlin, John Wilkins and William Spiller the severall witnesses thereto, is by order of the Court truly recorded.
