The third day of February, Anno Dom. one thousand seven hundred and twenty three, I Robert Chappell of Prince George County, being sick in Body But of good and perfect memory thanks be to Almighty God, and calling to remembrance the uncertain state of this Transitory Life and that all flesh must yeild unto Death when it shall please God to call do make and Declare this my Last Will and Testament in manner & form following: First being pennitent and sorry for all my Sinns, most humbly Desireing forgiveness for the same, I commend my Soul to Almighty God my Saviour and Redeemer in whom and by whose merritts I trust and believe assuredly to be saved, and to have full remission and forgiveness for all my sinns, and to Inherit the Kingdom of Heaven, and my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently buryed at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named. And for the settling my Temporall Estate, and such Goods, Chattels and Debts as it hath pleased God to bestow upon me, I do order, give and dispose in manner and form following.- Imprimis. I give and bequeath to my son Robert forty Shillings in cash, one Bed, my Gun, and wearing apparrell, my horse Turk, with Sadle and furniture, three cows and calves, and my Negro boy Dick, to be delivered him at the age of 21 years. Item. I give and bequeath to my Daughter Sarah, one Bed,forty Shillings in cash, and my Negro Girl named Frank, to be delivered her when of age or the time of her marriage. Item. I give to my Daughter Mary, one Negro Girl named Jenny. Item. I give to my beloved wife Sarah, my Negro's Harry, Janey & Lydia, my three other horses with side sadle and furniture, also three pounds, Nine Shillings Cash, and after her decease I give Negro Janey to my son Robert. Item. I give to Daughter Ann three pounds in Cash, and my Mare and her increase (if any Lives) to be divided between my two Daughters Mary & Ann, and as I have no more Negro's that I might give all my children one, it is my Desire that the first increase that Lives of all these before mentioned Negro's, I give one to my Daughter Ann, and another to my youngest son James, and then all Negro's given to my children I do give to them and their increase for ever; and in case one of my children dies without issue, then I desire they may be equally divided between the rest of my children. Item. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife all the rest of Estate whether in Debts or otherwise (except what houshold Goods or moveables is left after my Decease according to Inventory, I desire it may be equally divided between my wife and children as they come of age, by any two neighbours as my wife thinks fit, and what cattle, sheep or hoggs I have I leave to her and her discretion, to give any part to my children as they come of age. I do hereby make & appoint my Dear and beloved wife full and sole Executrix of this my Last Will and Testament, hereby revoking, disannulling & makeing void all former Wills and bequest by me made, and declareing this only to be my Last, and Testament. Pierce At a Court held at Merchants Hope for Prince George County, the Second Tuesday in May, being the Twelfth day of the said month, A.Dom: 1724. The above written Last Will and Testament of Robert Chappell dec'ed. was presented into Court by Sarah his Relict and Executrix, who made oath thereto, and it being proved by the oaths of Thomas Hardoway & Robert Bevil two of the witnesses thereto, by order of the Court is truly recorded.
