Will of Thomas Clifton, 1724 - Prince George Co.VA. Will of Thomas Clifton - 1724 (Deeds etc. 1713-28, page 777, Prince George Co.VA.) In the name of God, Amen, The Eleventh day of December 1724. I Thomas Clifton of the parrish of Martins Brandon in Prince George County, Virginia being sick in Body, but of Good and perfect memory, thanks be to Almighty God, and calling to mind the uncertain Estate of this Transitory Life, and that all flesh must yield unto Death when it shall please God to call, do make and declare this my Last Will and Testament in manner & form following; First being penitant and sorry for all my Sins, most humbly desireing forgiveness for the same, I commend my Soul unto Almighty God, my Saviour and redeemer, in whom and by whose merritts I trust and believe assuredly to be saved, and to have full remission and forgiveness of all my Sins,and to Inherrit the Kingdom of Heaven, and my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executrix hereafter named and for the setling of my Temporall Estate, and such Goods, chattels and Debts, as it hath pleased God to bestow upon me, I do order give & dispose of the same in manner & form following, that is to say.- Imprimis. I give and bequeath my Land in Martins Brandon called the Rich Neck and formerly in the Tenure of Richard Newman, to my Son William Clifton, and his heirs, and in case of mortality I give and bequeath it to my Daughter Elizabeth Clifton, and her heirs, and in case of mortality in her and her heirs, then I give and bequeath it to my youngest Daughter, and her heirs forever, and in defalt of issue to the next of kin, But my will and desire is that my Loveing wife Mary shall enjoy and have the use of my Land dureing her naturall Life. Item. I give and bequeath my Negro Man Jamy to my Daughter Elizabeth, but my will and Desire is that my Loveing wife Mary shall have the use of the said Negro Jamy dureing her naturall Life. Item. I give and bequeath all my personall Estate to my Loveing wife Mary, and to my Son William, and to my Daughter Elizabeth and to my youngest Daughter, to be divided equally amongst them. And I hereby make and appoint my Loveing wife Mary full and sole Executrix of this my Last Will and Testament, hereby revoking and makeing void all former Wills by me made, & declare this to be my Last Will and Testament. The above written Last Will and Testament of Thomas Clifton dec'ed. was presented into Court by Mary his Relict and Executrix, who made oath thereto, and it being proved by the oaths of Peter Talbott and Charles Cantwell, two of the witnesses thereto, is by order of the Court truly recorded and on the motion of the said Mary Clifton and her giveing Security according to Law, Certificate is granted her for obtaining a probate of the said Will in due form.
