Will of Elizabeth Hamlin, 1720 - Prince George Co. VA (Deeds etc. 1713-28, page 421, Prince George Co.VA.) In the Name of God, Amen I Elizabeth Hamlin being sick of Body, but of sound & perfect mind and memory, praise be therefore given to Almighty God, do make and ordain this my present Last Will and Testament, in manner and form following (that is to say) First and principally I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God, hopefully through the merrits, death and passion of my Saviour Jesus Christ, to have full and free pardon and forgiveness of all my Sins, and to Inherrit Everlasting Life, and my body I commit to Earth to be decently buried at the Discretion of my Ex'tr. hereafter named, and as touching the Disposition of all such Temporall Estate as it hath pleased God to bestow upon me, I give and dispose thereof as follows. First I will that my Debts and Funerall charges shall be paid and Discharged. Item. I give to my son William Hamlin Five Negro's to witt, Sam, Jamy, Cuffie and his wife and Last child, and if Mr.Wm.Epes will give my said son William Hamlin as much mony as will buy him a good Negro to content then Mr.Epes to have the Last three, to witt, Cuffie and his wife and child, and I further give my said son William Hamlin two Cows and Calves, and Six Sheep, as also my feather bedd I now Lye on with all its furniture and two Hammocks,as also one Iron pott,six pewter dishes and six plates, and one ______________, the Negro's to him & his heirs. Item. I give to my Daughter Lucy one feather bedd and bolsters, one rugg, a pair of sheets and one Hammock, as also two Cows, Six Sheep, one Iron pott, six new pewter dishes, and one horse, sorrell. Item. I give to my Grandson Thomas Hamlin, one feather bedd and bolster, one rugg, one Blanket and a pair of sheets, as also two Cows and two Ewes. Item. I give to my Daughter Sarah one mourning Ring, and to Mr.Cargill one mourning Ring, and each of their two children a mourning Ring. Item.I give to my Daughter Elizabeth and her Husband each of them a mourning Ring. Item. I further give and confirm to my Daughter Lucy Four Negro's, to witt Dick, Robin and Nanny, now in her possession, and Betty, to her and to her heirs of her Body Lawfully begotten. Item. I further give to my son William Hamlin the money due to me from Mr.John Hamersly, Mr.John Stith, and Mr.Drury Stith and Joseph Fowler. All the rest of my Estate, Goods and Chattels whatsoever, I give and bequeath as follows, one Equall fourth part to my son John and one Equall fourth part to my son William, and one Equall fourth part to my Daughter Hannah & one Equall fourth part to my Daughter Lucy, and I do hereby make and ordain my two sons John and William Hamlin full Exe'trs. of this my Last Will and Testament and I do hereby revoke disanull and make void all former Wills and Testaments by me made. The above written Last Will and Testament of Elizabeth Hamlin dec'ed. was presented into Court by John Hamlin and William Hamlin her Executors who made oath thereto, and it being proved by the oaths of Gilbert Hay, Elizabeth Troughton, and Rebecca Jones witnesses thereto, is by order of the Court truly recorded.
