Will of Thomas Harnison - 1720 - Prince George Co. VA (Deeds etc. 1713-28, page 398, Prince George Co.VA.) In The Name of God, Amen, I Thomas Harnison of Prince George County, in the Colony of Virginia, being in perfect health, mind & memory thanks be unto God, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament that is to say, principally and first of all, I give and recommend my Soul into the hands of God that gave it, hopeing assuredly through the merritts of my only Saviour Jesus Christ, for mercy and salvation, my Body I Commend to the Earth, to be decently Interred at the discretion of my Executor herein after named, and as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me, I give and dispose of the same in the following manner. Imprimis. I give and bequeath unto Ellinor my wife all the Goods and Chattles I left with her. Item. I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Ann Hamlin, and her heirs a Negro Man named Tom, also one desk, one large brass kettle, six rushia Leather chairs, one pair of Iron doggs, one Large Looking glass. Item. I give to my Grandson Thomas Hamlin, tenn pounds current mony, to be paid to him at the age of twenty one years, also six silver spoons markt TH. Item. I give unto my Granddaughter Martha Hamlin, tenn pounds current mony,to be paid to her at the age of Eighteen years,or day of marryage. Item. I give to my Grandson Richard Hamlin, tenn pounds current mony to be paid to him at the age of twenty one years. Item. I give to my Granddaughter Elizabeth Hamlin, tenn pounds current mony,to be paid to her at the age of Eighteen years,or day of marryage. Item. I give unto my Grandson John Hall, son of Robert Hall, and Elizabeth his wife, my Lease of the plantation in Martin Brandon and all my chattels thereon found, together with tenn pounds current mony. Item. I give unto Thomas Hall, son of Robert Hall, and Elizabeth his wife, to him and his heirs, one Negro Man named Glascow, and also tenn pounds current mony, and six silver spoons markt TH. Item. I give unto my Daughter Ann Hamlin, and my Grandson John Hall, son of Robert Hall, the produce of Eight hogsheads of tobacco now shipt for England, to be equally divided between them. Item. I give to Robert Hall, Ann Hamlin, and Elizabeth Hall, Twenty Shilings to every one of them to bey mourning rings. Item. I give to my Granddaughter Sarah Hall, Twelve Shillings to bey her a mourning ring. Item. I give unto my other six Grandchildren, Ten Shillings to every one of them to bey mourning rings. Item. I give unto my Grandson Thomas Hamlin, all my wearing apparrell, and my Grandson Thomas Hall my Great Bible and common prayer book. And Lastly I do nominate and appoint my Son in Law Robert Hall, sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament, but in case of failure of the said Robert Hall,I then appoint my Daughter Ann Hamlin, & Elizabeth Hall, joint Executrixes, and do hereby revoke and disannul all former wills by me at any time heretofore made, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament, In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal, the second day of April 1720. The above written Last Will and Testament of Thomas Harnison dece'd. was presented into Court by Robert Hall his Executor, who made oath thereto, and it being proved by the oaths of John Hamersly, and Timothy Bridges, witnesses thereto, is by order of the Court Truly recorded. And on the motion of the said Robert Hall, and by giving security according to Law Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate of the Will in due form.
