Will of Henry Thompson, 1720 - Prince George Co. VA (Deeds etc. 1713-28, page 401, Prince George Co.VA.) In the Name of God, Amen. I Henry Thompson Yeoman of the Parrish of Martins Brandon upon James River in Virginia being weak in Body, but of sound perfect and disposing mind and memory, praise be given to Almighty God for the same and considering the frailty and uncertainty of this mortal Life, do make & declare my Last Will and Testament in manner & form following.- that is to say.- First and principally I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator trusting and assuredly believing through his mercy and the death merritts and mediation of Jesus Christ my Redeemer to have free and full pardon & remission of all my sins, and to obtain Everlasting Salvation, and my Body I commit to the Earth after this Life ended, to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executrix herein after named, and as for such Worldly Goods and Estate as it hath pleased God to bestow upon me, I give, devise, bequeath, and dispose the same as followeth Viz.: Imprimis I do will order and appoint that all my just debts shall be duly paid and discharged. Item. I give and bequeath to my Loveing son Humphrey Thompson, one feather Bed and furniture and halfe the pewter and one chest all which things I brought over with me from the other side of James River, and halfe my wearing apparrell and one young Bay mair and my hunting gunn. Item. I give my son John Thompson one dark bay Mair and the other halfe of the pewter and wearing apparrell, with one chest. Item. I give devise and bequeath to my son Richard Thompson Two Shillings and Six Pence in mony. Item. I give and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my Goods and Estate not herein otherwise bequeathed whether the same be in Bills, Bonds, ready mony, household Goods, or of any other kind or quantity, I give and appoint unto my Loveing wife Sarah Thompson. Item. I do nominate constitute and appoint my said wife Sarah Thompson full and sole Executrix of this my Last Will and Testament, and Lastly I do hereby revoke all former and other Wills and Testaments by me at any time made and do appoint this only to stand and be my Last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I the said Henry Thompson the Testator have set my hand and Seal this Sixth day of March Anno Domini, one thousand seven hundred & nineteen twenty, and in the sixth year of the reign of our Soveraign Lord George, by the Grace of God of Great Brittain France and Ireland King defender of the Faith, etc. Hen. The above written Last Will and Testament of Henry Thompson dec'ed. was presented into Court by Sarah Thompson his Executrix who made oath thereto, and it being proved by the oaths of Robert Richardson and Sampson Merredeth witnesses thereto, is by order of the Court truly Recorded, and on the motion of the said Sarah Thompson and her giving Security according to Law, Certificate is granted her for obtaining a probate in due form.
