OWNERS: John Riggs, prior to 1780 Stephen Howison 1780 Stephen Howison 1836 second plat from Court Sale Delila Barnes 1859 Thomas Barnes 1889 Lucretia Barnes 1916 Joseph Stepko 1928, present owner [1938] DESCRIPTION: The graveyard is the only part of this place that has been visited. It is about a hundred feet from the road, and surrounded by a stout wire fence. The present house, which is built on the site of the old one, is some six hundred feet to the north. While there is nothing of interest in the house, now standing, which is comparatively new, there are several old log out buildings. From what a few old neighbors relate, the original house was the usual type of frame house, large chimneys at the ends, and a central hall. It was a house of perhaps more than average size and well built. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: While there is no doubt much concerning this old home site that is of interest, there appears to be no one left who can give any account of it. It was as the deeds and gravestone inscriptions disclose, an old Howison place. Stephen Howison was one of the Vestrymen at the old Slaty Run Church, and a man of prominence in the community. During the War Between the States there was some skirmishing near by and it is said soldiers camped on the place. There are many stones however, that have no inscriptions on them.
