Prince William Co., Virginia DATE: (blank) OWNERS: John Love 1797 Thomas Hunton and Henry Brooks 1818 John T. Delaplane et al 1835 Catherine Delaplane, wife of Jacob Delaplane & their 13 children 1846 Lucinda Delaplane 1873 DESCRIPTION: (A description of the house and gardens has not been recanted in this space but can be located in the original document at the Library of Virginia.) HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: In another report on this site I described the surroundings, there is one old cabin let on the place and another small log house, the other buildings were destroyed by fire a number of years ago, and with them many valuable old relics. There is a pane of glass in the dining room window of the present house that has the inscription “C.F. Baldwin, 1862”, this was cut there by a soldier with the ring he wore, and while practically all the glass in the house was either broken or melted in the fire, this pane remained whole and was put in the new frame. The old house was used as a hospital during the war, and the mill also. I have also neglected to say that the present mill which is built on the site of the old one, in fact is a part of it, only much enlarged was run by turbins and had four burrs, the twelve inch oak timbers are perfectly sound and a builder who saw it not long ago said that it would last for a century yet. The granary which is the original building built by John Love in 1797 is also in good condition. To the south of the house is the old graveyard, partly hidden by huge box bushes. John T.
