PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – “Mayfield” Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Mayfield: 1937 Apr. 19 Research made by Florence Lion Cemetery Location: 1.5 miles northeast of Manassas, Virginia on Route #616 Prince William Co., Virginia DATE: Prior to 1832 (house). OWNERS: John Hooe inherited the land from this father, Robert H. Hooe, in 1832. John Hooe died prior to 1870, and the land was divided among his children, Mary C., Robert, Susan F., Jennie, Fannie Nutt and Virginia Iden. Henry Fletcher, present owner (1937), bought the “Mayfield Quarry Tract”, from the heirs. DESCRIPTION: The entire house is a complete ruin. There are no trees left except one large pear tree. The yard is a tangle of matrimony vines. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The family refugeed during the War Between the States in Fluvanna County, Virginia. The following are the inscriptions on the tombstones in the family burying ground: In Memory of Sarah Hooe who was born in 1794 and died in 1799 She faded like a flower. By her brother. Edmonia B. wife of H. B. born May 27, 1850 died March 30, 1887 In Memory of Robert Hooe who was born in 1772 and died March 30, 1832 Rest in peace, dear father Jane F. Nutt died February 1872 age 72 years Maggie Hall Hooe wife of H. B. Hooe born 1857 died 1900 (Epitaph illegible) in 1791 and died in 1799 Nellie daughter of T.M. and S.C.
