PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Purcell Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Purcell cemetery at Brentsville: 1937 May 12 Research made by Susan R. Morton Cemetery Location: In Brentsville 5 miles east of Nokesville, Virginia, in a pasture back of what is known as the Tavern Lot, about 300 rods west of Route #619. Prince William Co., Virginia DATE: 1869, date of the earliest grave. OWNERS: Purcell family. DESCRIPTION: As this is so close to the Tavern Lot it may have some connection with one of the former owners. The cemetery, which is apparently a very old one, is without enclosure, and the only protection there is, is the mass of rose and other shrubs that have overgrown the place. Fair sized trees grow directly over the graves that appear to be the oldest. These are marked by common field stones and are without inscriptions. Other stones are badly broken. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The following are the only legible markings: (marble slab) Catherine A. Purcell Died August 28th, 1869 aged 70 years Gone Home.
